Remodeling ,  renovating or repairing refers to making improvements on an existing building or home. Construction involving renovation often refers to “restoring” or “repairing” an existing structure, replacing the old with the new. The structur or the form of the home or building is being changed to something newer.

Restoration always means a putting back or fixing the older house to its original state. If you restore a 1950s house, you use period materials and effects. A renovation might include new things. The restoration involved everything from paint analysis to ground-penetrating radar and the result was as accurate a restoration as possible. One of the first principles of restoration is that as much as possible of the original materials. Others consideraions may include how to deal with systems and elements like plumbing, electrical, HVAC, new sills, reframed back wall, kitchen, baths, plaster, etc.

Budget is always important when you’re debating between a renovation, restoring or a rebuild. Renovations can be a great way to improve the value of your house on a tight budget. Restoration will generally cost  more and can take longer to complet. Rebuilding, on the other hand, is a major commitment – once you tear your house down, there’s no turning back.
